Ancient Aztec Map of Universe Found on Mexican Volcano – Outer Places

It’s very easy to scoff at the beliefs of people from a less scientifically enlightened age of humanity, ruling out their understanding of the universe as relying too heavily on guesswork and speculation.

“These visual effects, in addition to the characteristics of the elements that make up the site and the relationship they have with each other, make us suppose that Nahualac could represent a microcosm that evokes the primitive waters and the beginning of the mythical time-space.”

Apparently, the stones that make up the various navigational points within the universe in this map have been placed in a small, secluded pool of still water, which reflects up the image of the sky above, making it appear that the stones are all floating in nothingness. This, apparently, is important to the Aztec creation myth, and their idea of the early universe being made up of small pockets of land that float independently in the great waters of the universe.

UCF to hold national title celebration in downtown Orlando on Monday – Orlando Sentinel

After pledging to pay the UCF coaching and support staff a pool of $325,000 for winning a national title, to hang a championship banner at Spectrum Stadium and to sell championship T-shirts to fans, White also promised the UCF bowl players will receive national championship rings. The NCAA allows schools to purchase rings for teams participating in bowl games and has no restrictions on what is listed on the rings.

UCF athletics director Danny White has led the charge to call the Knights national champions, touting their finish as the Football Bowl Subdivision’s sole undefeated team as proof they did all that was needed to win a title.

No. 12 UCF earned a 34-27 win over No. 7 Auburn in the Peach Bowl Monday, completing the first perfect season in school history. The Knights went 13-0, won the American Athletic Conference title and posted the highest graduation rate among all Football Bowl Subdivision public schools.

Regardless of the criticism UCF has received for claiming it is the national champion, White shows now signs of letting up on his title campaign.

The downtown celebration will follow a UCF football parade scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It will feature the UCF football team, cheerleaders and marching band.

Atlanta United 2018 schedule is out and TV is happy – MyAJC

New places. The team will visit several stadiums it missed last season. It starts with the opener at Houston, continues with the team’s first game in California when it plays at L.A. Galaxy on April 21, goes on with a game at Dallas on July 4, keeps going with what may be a game at under-construction Audi Field and D.C. United on Sept. 2 and ends with games at Colorado on Sept. 15 and San Jose on Sept. 19.

The team has added several players in the offseason, including midfielder Darlington Nagbe, and has held on to Josef Martinez, Miguel Almiron and Hector Villalba, rumored transfer targets.

The tough stretch. The toughest portion of Atlanta United’s schedule may come in June when the team faces three consecutive playoff teams, including two on the road. The Five Stripes will play at NYCFC on June 9 at Yankee Stadium, travel to Columbus for a game four days later on the 13th, and then host Nagbe’s former team, Portland, on the 24th.

Jeff Sessions ends policy that let legal pot flourish – CBS News

CBS News’ Julia Kimani Burnham and Alan He contributed to this report.

Sessions, however, compares marijuana to heroin and blames it for spikes in violence.

He tweeted that this “contradicts what Attorney General Sessions told me prior to his confirmation. With no prior notice to Congress, the Justice Department has trampled on the will of the voters in CO and other states.”

So far eight states and the District of Columbia have legalized the drug for recreational use, and it is now helping to fund schools and even law enforcement.  California just began selling recreational marijuana in recent days. The new guidance threatens to upend sales by giving federal prosecutors more discretion in how they enforce federal law.  According to a senior DOJ official, “This is the return of the rule of law,” Pegues reports.

The move now injects uncertainty into the growing industry in the regions of the country that have legalized the drug, CBS News’ Jeff Pegues points out. Many are likely to be confused about whether it’s okay to grow, buy or use marijuana in states where it’s legal, since long-standing federal law prohibits it.

He went on to suggest that it fell to Congress to change the classification of marijuana as an illegal drug if it didn’t want DOJ to enforce the law against it.

But any private assurances Sessions may have given Gardner before his confirmation hearing were not necessarily evident in that testimony. He told senators who asked him about this very issue that “one obvious concern is that the United States Congress has made the possession of marijuana in every state and distribution of it, an illegal act.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a marijuana enforcement memo Thursday rescinding the Obama administration’s guidance, which enabled states to legalize marijuana without federal intervention. His one-page memo makes it clear that marijuana possession and distribution is against federal law, and it will direct U.S. attorneys to approach these cases as they do all other cases when enforcing them.
