Drivers flee packed Dartford tunnel after car bursts in to flames

Kent Police told ITV there weren’t any reported injuries.

Fortunately, firefighters could connect to the blaze and extinguished it shortly before 1.30pm.

Kent County Fire &amplifier Save Service stated inside a statement: ‘Crews aided firefighters from Kent in extinguishing a vehicle fire within the Dartford Tunnel.

‘A dry powder fire extinguisher was utilized to extinguish the fireplace underneath the car’s bonnet.’

The incident caused the watering within the packed tunnel to activate because it rapidly ‘filled with smoke’.

The tunnel was closed but has since reopened.
