SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed legislation which will take away the statutes of limitation for sexual abuse crimes.
Rauner signed the measure Friday. Sponsor condition Sen. Michael Hastings of Frankfort stated the legislation puts in position “best practices for coping with sexual assault cases statewide and puts a method in position which will encourage survivors in the future forward and receive justice when they’re ready.”
Under previous law victims needed to report crimes within twenty years after switched 18. The legislation adopts effect immediately.
Statutes of limitation restrict time when government bodies may charge someone following a crime occurs. The legislation Rauner signed removes individuals limitations for legal criminal sexual abuse and sex crimes against children. That will permit for that prosecution of individuals crimes anytime.
