The government suit, filed Thursday through the Gary NAACP and also the Priorities USA Foundation, names Indiana’s secretary of condition and people from the Indiana Election Division as defendants.
The suit challenges legislation that applies simply to Lake County, which hosts Indiana’s second-largest African-American population and it is largest Hispanic population. It alleges the new law unfairly reassigns large figures of voters to new polling locations which may be hard for black and Latino voters with mobility issues or too little reliable transportation to achieve.
CROWN POINT, Ind. — The NAACP is suing Indiana officials to bar a brand new condition law the civil legal rights group states would discriminate against black and Latino voters in heavily populated Lake County by consolidating voting precincts.
