Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has requested Congress to increase by twelve months the martial law he declared within the south to guarantee the “total eradication” of professional-Islamic Condition group extremists.

Duterte cautioned that extremists still plot public uprisings targeted at creating a caliphate in Southeast Asia despite a unsuccessful but disastrous attempt to setup one out of the southern Philippines.

Duterte stated inside a letter towards the Senate and home of Representatives that extending his martial law declaration within the south with the finish of 2018 allows government forces to press offensives against other armed groups, such as the brutal Abu Sayyaf group and communist guerrillas, who’ve intensified their attacks.

A duplicate from the president’s letter was distributed around reporters Monday.
