“Tony performed with an amount of passion that’s unrivaled. He helped establish a Grizzlies culture centered on toughness and energy, and he challenged every player that put on Beale Street Blue to match his fiery intensity. On account from the entire organization, I must thank him for his incredible contributions towards the Grizzlies and also the unique method in which he inspired the town of Memphis.”

Controlling owner Robert J. Pera said within the team’s statement:
“Tony will usually be among the main Four accountable for the turnaround within the Memphis Grizzlies’ fortunes and our boost in recognition. There’d not have been seven straight many years of playoff appearances, the incredible electricity in FedExForum for home games, ‘Grit and Grind’ and ‘Believe Memphis’ without Tony Allen’s contributions towards the team.
“Along the way Tony grew to become not only among the toughest defenders within the league—he grew to become a real cult hero who had been intertwined using the soul of Memphis like couple of athletes have in almost any city. Tony and the family is going to be missed but his effect on the Grizzlies and Memphis should never be forgotten.”
The Memphis Grizzlies announced Thursday that Tony Allen’s No. 9 jersey could be upon the market and hung in the rafters at the FedExForum on Friday, when Allen returns to Memphis using the New Orleans Pelicans inside a preseason game.
