IIn a private clinic in Berlin, chief physician Fritz von Weizsäcker, son of former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker, was stabbed to death during a lecture. According to a police spokeswoman, he was suddenly attacked by a man on Tuesday night. About 20 spectators came to the lecture. A man from the auditorium – it should have been a policeman who was there privately – was said to have intervened and himself seriously injured. The 59-year-old from Weizsäcker died on the spot. The suspect was arrested.
Several people from the audience helped loudly police to detain the perpetrator and hand over to the police. A homicide commission investigated. Experts investigated the crime scene. The incident occurred at around 6.50 pm in the private Schlosspark Clinic near the Charlottenburg Palace. Fritz von Weizsäcker has been head of the Department of Internal Medicine I at the Schlosspark Clinic since 2005, after having worked in Freiburg, Boston and Zurich.
According to the website, there are regular events in the clinic, which are usually addressed to interested medical laypersons who would like to learn about illnesses, their diagnosis and treatment options. The clinic is located at Schlosspark Charlottenburg. According to her website, she has about 340 beds. There are specialist departments, among others, for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry and Internal Medicine (Gastroenterology and Cardiology).
From Weizsäcker's father Richard von Weizsäcker was from 1981 to 1984 Governing Mayor of Berlin and from 1984 to 1994 Federal President of the Federal Republic. He died on January 31, 2015.
