The experienced Dutch tennis player Kiki Bertens, number five in the world ranking, finished last night with the dream of Paula Badosa to play his first WTA tournament final. Bertens defeated Badosa in two sets (6-1 and 7-5) in the semifinals of Palermo in which Badosa's first appearance had been the penultimate round of an appointment at this level. Badosa, number 119 of the ranking, could not overcome Bertens and was only just two steps to complete his great week just after having made public that months ago he had suffered different episodes of anxiety and depression. Arriving in the semifinals in Palermo, however, will serve Paula Badosa to get scrubbing top 100 of the WTA ranking on Monday when there is the new update. He will probably occupy position 101.
Yesterday, against Bertens, who will today seek his fifth title of the year in the final against Switzerland Jill Teichmann, Badosa knew how to react well from a fast first set against, 1-6, and was ready to send the match to the third set. With 5-5 in the second, Bertens asserted his experience, and the obvious quality of the fifth player, to finish closing his classification for the final.
