TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ensured that the development of the handling of Covid-19 in Indonesia was still under control. Although, lately the world is anticipating the spread of the Covid-19 variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron.
“So I ask the media not to make news that seems like a world war,” Luhut said at a press conference, Sunday, November 28, 2021. He said that the variant had not yet been detected in Indonesia.
Luhut said the government will be very careful in making decisions because there are still many things that are not known. He also told experts and the Ministry of Health to look at more complete data from various sources.
The reason is, much of the information circulating at this time is still conjecture. This includes the effect of Omicron variants on vaccinations or antibodies formed from natural infections.
“Actually, the vaccine so far is still very good. This is still speculation, there is no definite news. We have to hold onto the data. So all decisions made by the government are based on data, not based on words,” said Luhut.
Luhut said the government remained super careful and took conservative steps by referring to figures and data. President Joko Widodo, he said, had reminded his staff to keep an eye on the development of the new variant so that they could make the best decisions for the country.
In the future, the government will continue to evaluate in line with the information obtained from various credible institutions in the world.
