Electric Subaru STI E-RA is aimed at racing circuits

The concept, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, is part of the STI E-RA Challenge project launched by Subaru to “gain experience and test new technologies in the world of motorsport.”

It uses a total of four Yamaha engines – one on each wheel – and has a combined output of 800 kW. The Japanese talk about advanced torque vectoring separately for each wheel.

As a result, STI E-RA reportedly draws on Subaru’s “all-wheel drive heritage”, which it founded during two decades in global rally championships with the Legacy and Impreza models.

One engine for each lap is there not only for efficient vectorization, but also because such a setting is permitted by FIA regulations for the new E-GT racing series, which will begin in 2023, indicating that Subaru will want to participate.

Following a track development program during 2022, Subaru will take the car to the northern loop of the Nürburgring, where it will try to reach a lap time of 6 minutes 40 seconds.
