First pill against COVID-19 allowed in the United Kingdom: “Hopefully with us at the beginning of 2022”, says virologist Johan Neyts

Britain is the first country to give the green light to an oral drug – a pill – against COVID-19.

The drug molnupiravir from the company Merck halves the risk of hospitalization and death of patients with mild to moderate corona and an underlying risk.

“An important step”, says KU Leuven virologist Johan Neyts. He expects European recognition of molnupiravir by early next year. (VRTNWS)
