The first day of vaccination of girls and boys against the COVID-19 disease showed a significant adherence of families since in one day more than 106,000 people between 3 and 11 years old began their scheme with Sinopharm.
“The level of enrollment is high, as is the commitment of the provinces and scientific societies to continue working for those who still have any doubts,” said the Minister of Health of the Nation, Carla Vizzotti.
The official added that yesterday in La Pampa, where the official launch was held, “we shared experiences with families who approached the vaccines with expectation after waiting for the vaccines for a long time, especially those who have risky conditions and also those who want protect their children and others, be part of that virtuous circle that reduces transmission ”.
The minister explained that the Sinopharm vaccine that is being applied in this age group has a well-known platform, “the same that is used for hepatitis A, some influenza vaccines and the Salk inactivated polio vaccine.” He also pointed out that “this same vaccine with the antigen against COVID-19 was applied in millions of people over 18 years of age in different countries and showed a very good safety profile, with a low rate of adverse effects.”
Vizzotti indicated that “children with risky conditions come from a situation of many months of isolation, and a lot of care, so it is key to protect them” and clarified that “in healthy children the possibility of complications is not zero”, for that reason vaccination is essential for individual protection as well as in reducing the transmission of the virus that causes the disease.
In addition, the national vaccination plan against COVID-19 continues its progress in the other groups, thus 89.7% of those over 18 years of age have already started their scheme and 72.5 have completed it.
