West Java Attorney General’s Response to Komnas HAM Rejects Herry Wirawan’s Death Penalty

Komnas HAM rejected the demand for the death penalty against Herry Wirawan for raping 13 female students in Bandung. The West Java Prosecutor’s Office opened its voice regarding the refusal.

“So Mr. Kajati’s instructions, we focus on resolving cases. Focusing on resolving this case is our duty as law enforcement officers. Since the trial is still ongoing, we focus on that,” said West Java Attorney General Dodi Gazali Emil when contacted, Friday (14-14). /1/2022).

The demand for the death penalty was given by the public prosecutor (JPU) of the West Java Prosecutor’s Office in the prosecution trial some time ago. Dodi said that apart from focusing on handling cases, his party also paid attention to the condition of the victims.

“We also focus on how to give a better future to the victims and their children born from this, we focus on providing protection to the victims and providing a better future for them,” he said.

Asked about the accusation of violating human rights for the claim, Dodi stated that his party is currently still focusing on regretting the case.

“Yes, so we just focus on resolving this case and carrying out law enforcement because it is our duty as law enforcers. We just focus on that. We don’t comment on things other than that,” said Dodi.

For your information, Komnas HAM does not agree with the demand for the death penalty imposed on Herry Wirawan, a defendant in the case of raping 13 female students in Bandung. Komnas HAM considers the death penalty contrary to human rights principles.

“Komnas HAM does not agree with the implementation of the death penalty because it is against human rights principles,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara, Wednesday (12/1).
