Singaporean racing driver Christian Ho has paused his pursuit of becoming the nation’s first Formula 1 driver to prepare for mandatory national service. According to an Instagram post published by the 19-year-old on Sept 10, he has decided to skip the final round in Madrid and expects his racing career to remain on hold for the coming years.
National Service Stalls Historic F1 Bid
Christian Ho stated in his social media update that he is preparing to enlist for Singapore’s mandatory national service. According to the athlete, he is likely to begin his service later in 2026, though he has not yet received his official enlistment letter. The development puts an abrupt halt to a rapid ascent through the motorsport ranks.
The 2024 Eurocup-3 champion made history in January 2025 by signing with French team Dams Lucas Oil, becoming the first Singaporean to race in FIA Formula 3. That category sits two rungs below Formula 1. In his debut F3 season with Dams, Ho finished 22nd out of 37 drivers across 10 rounds, serving as the team’s top driver. His highest placings came at Silverstone in July, where he took sixth in the sprint and fifth in the main race.
A Challenging Sophomore Campaign and Academic Pressures
He completed his debut season with Dams in 2025, before joining New Zealand outfit Rodin Motorsport, whose alumni include McLaren’s F1 champion Lando Norris, Mercedes’ George Russell and Williams’ Carlos Sainz. However, the transition brought tougher competition and limited results on track.
According to race records, Ho finished the feature race in all eight events he entered during his ongoing campaign, but broke into the points only once. That sole points-paying result was a ninth-place finish in Budapest on July 26, leaving him 25th out of 34 drivers in the standings. His final appearance before stepping away came at Monza on Sept 6, where he crossed the line 13th.
The driver noted that his campaign suffered due to scheduling conflicts. His racing commitments clashed with his A Levels from May to end June, but also with knowing that he probably would not be doing any racing due to his national service.
